I had a chance to travel down to Virginia one weekend back in 2006 to catch Toto performing at the Louden Summer Music Fest on July 2, in Ashburn Virginia. It was a really laid back scene and other than checking to make sure we had tickets — nobody bothered searching my camera bag to give me shit about having a full size DSLR and a 300mm zoom lens.
I took tons of photos all day of various bands and lots of the Toto performance, but this is the only image from that day I’ve ever shared. It was just one of those instances of being in the right place at the right time — luck of the draw.
I captured this moment in time where Guitarist Steve Lukather is taking a bow after playing one of the crowd favorites taking a bow with his arms stretched out, at the same time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes has his arms raised in the air in the same fashion as the person standing in front of me — who’s outstretched arms are basically framing the whole scene.
I just love this shot, the way it all fits together and looks as if it had been “staged.”
