THE STORY

No Pittsburgh based photographer can say they truly “represent the 412” without obligatory shots of the traditional Pittsburgh skyline, with the “Mr. Rodgers” themed Duquesne Incline in the foreground. You can’t ride this thing without hearing a bunch of tourists wondering “what would happen if the cables broke” and exclaiming “There’s Heinz Field!”

You can’t walk into any Pittsburgh tourist trap selling photography without being able to purchase this image.

In THIS version of my expertly composed obligatory incline shot of Pittsburgh, I just loved how the low hanging sun provided such rich color. All of the yellows in this image just pop right out. They are helped by the overcast clouds hanging over the half of sky that I had the camera pointed at. That extra contrast gives this image a bump from the 200 or so people who take this same photograph every day with their cell phones.

The view of Pittsburgh from the Duquesne Incline — a century-old cable car and one of the few remaining inclines in the country. The Duquesne Incline has been part of Pittsburgh’s transportation system since May 20, 1877 — like the trolleys and cable cars of San Francisco.
