Got The Shot

South LawnThe White House
I took this photo back in 2003. The first time I shared this image on social media I noted that “I feel lucky to have taken a photo from this angle through the back fence, because at the rate this country keeps deteriorating I won’t be surprised if people are banned from viewing it altogether someday. Maybe they will remove the back fence and install a new wall with an electric fence? Then surround it with ugly ass jersey barriers like everything else in D.C.”
Then, on April 19, 2017 the public was banned from viewing the white house from the sidewalk next to the south lawn fence. In typical dumpster D.C. fashion, the rabble is now allowed to see it from behind a bunch of fucking Jersey Barriers and some ugly new fence.
Even on the day I took this photo, the entire lawn BEHIND me looked like they just held a monster truck rally, and the whole thing was covered in more jersey barriers and chain link fences around many of the monuments.
I enjoy the challenge of taking a place where I’m mostly surrounded by garbage and filth, and finding something that’s orderly and beautiful which stands out.
Too bad us stupid peasants will no longer be able to stick our lenses through the fence to get a clear photograph of the house we all pay for.
