On the Edge

The shot is from a Johnstown, PA from a place the locals call “Devil’s Rock.” This place has become quite popular lately thanks to YouTube, drones, and college kids posting selfies to Facebook from this spot.
I’m not going to tell you how to find it — but if you’re not completely dumb you should be able to figure it out right from the photograph. It’s quite easy to find.
The view is pretty spectacular from here. There was a crowd hanging out here from the moment I arrived to 3 hours when I left. Shown here is a brave college student dangling over the edge. Since dangling on the edge of a 100 foot drop is not in my comfort zone, I took photos of other people doing it instead. It’s not every day you see someone in a traditional turkish head dress hanging out on a spray paint covered rock, looking off in the distance.
Visible in the distance, is the Conemaugh Gap, known for being the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi River–1,350 feet to be exact. The Conemaugh Gap runs for seven miles and was formed by the Conemaugh River cutting through Laurel Ridge Mountain.
