THE STORY

After taking some photos of Breakneck Falls at McConnells Mill State Park in Pennsylvania, I posted the other day of the waterfall at McConnell’s Mill, I saw this beetle standing on a rock with it’s ass up in the air and this big long pointy thing sticking out. This thing didn’t move at all while I sat there taking about a dozen photos with a macro lens. I think it was giving birth because in some of the photographs, you could see dozens of little maggot babies crawling all over the abdomen and tail of this thing. This is the best image, photographically speaking from this encounter.

McConnells Mill State Park, a national natural landmark in Lawrence County, encompasses 2,546 acres of the spectacular Slippery Rock Creek Gorge. Created by the draining of glacial lakes thousands of years ago, the gorge has steep sides and the valley floor is littered with huge boulders. A gristmill built in the 1800s is open for tours. For adventurers, The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through this park, and there are numerous opportunities for rappelling and bouldering.
